Customs clearance of household goods
If you move from a non-EU country to Spain, then customs clearance of household goods is required. Wisse Moving, together with our customs agents, will take care of this. Vehicles can also be customs cleared by Wisse Moving (restrictions apply).
Requirements for customs clearance of household goods in Spain
In order to be able to duty-free import your household goods into Spain, the following regulations apply. Bear in mind that this information is purely informative. The final desicion whether you can import your goods without paying taxes and import duties depends on Customs. For moves within the European Union customs clearance is normally not required.
For returning Spanish nationals, supposing that you are changing your primary residence to Spain:
- Copy of your DNI
- Copy of your passport
- valued packing list
- copy of the bill of lading or seaway bill (for overseas moves)
- copy of the airway bill (for moves by air)
- registration in the town that you are moving to (“padrón”)
- “Baja Consular” in the Spanish consulate in origin. You have to to prove that you have lived more than one year outside of the European Union.
- Authorisation for customs clearance and a customs form. Wisse Moving will provide these.
For non-Spanish citizens, supposing that you are changing your primary residence to Spain:
- Copy of your NIE or resident permit (identification number for foreigners). Bear mind you need a NIE number for resident in Spain. The NIE has to be activated in the Agencia Tributaria (Ministry of Taxes)
- Copy of your passport
- valued packing list
- copy of the bill of lading or seaway bill (for overseas moves)
- copy of the airway bill (for moves by air)
- registration in the town that you are moving to (“padrón”)
- “Baja Consular”, or unregistering in your consulate in origin. You have to to prove that you have lived more than one year outside of the European Union.
- Authorisation for customs clearance and a customs form. Wisse Moving will provide these.

Prohibited and restricted items
Please do not include the following items in your move:
- Food, drinks, alcohol, any perishable goods
- Weapons, drugs, explosives, any dangerous goods
- Plants, animals
- Antiques (permit is required)
- Protected species and products made from them per the Washington Convention (CITES), such as ivory, tortoise shells, coral, reptile skins, etc.

Importing vehicles into Spain.
Wisse Moving can take care of importing your car or motorbike into Spain, as long as the vehicle matches the requirements. You would need the following documents. You would also need the documents described above for importing household goods. More information can be found here.
- Original vehicle purchase invoice
- Original documents of the car (certificate of title and registration, insurance, etc.)
- The car must be built to fit EU standards.
- Technical details sheet of the imported vehicle.
- If the model of the car is not sold in the EU, owner of the goods must obtain from the manufacturer a document stating to what EU model his car matches.
Also bear in mind:
- The car or motorbike must have been used by owner of the goods for a minimum of 6 months.
